The influence of Piet Mondrian the Dutch De Stijl painter is immense.
Yesterday amongst the coming and going of setting up a performance i went to my friend's house to pick up a few things and there was a small painting made by his dad in the '70s that was more or less like this.
Which is "Broadway Boogie Woogie" 1942-43, the infamous now painting of Mondrian. The story with this, is that my first university lecture begun with that painting and although i was a bit snubby with De Stijl, after this painting i begun to have a new found interest for them.
The story continues that a few years later i visited New York and i saw the real thing in MOMA. what a moment that was..
Anyway, so there i was in my friend Theo's flat yesterday, and he has one of the most beautiful flats with lovely artwork (his and his dad's) and with even lovelier furniture. I am just going to give the idea with a few examples of images. In general the flat which is a 30s high-ceiling 140sqm flat, is divine.
I think you get the idea.
Anyway, so there we were carrying things and chit chatting. and then later on in the day, i went home and wanted to see some shoes to cheer me up a bit and look what dear Nicholas Kirkwood made..a little hommage to Mondrian.
And of course all these go with a song created the same year with Boogie Woogie....which i simply adore.
What i mean to say is that really all of us need a bit of Mondrian cool...i sure do.
